Results Champion?: NO

Like many states in Middle America, Kansas has excellent transportation infrastructure. The state can also boast low rates of unemployment and above average overall scores in the areas of education and economy.

Kansas does suffer from mediocre environmental and public health outcomes, and a poor set of government performance measures. The state suffers from a comparatively large government, which no doubt has affected the below average outcomes in pension funding. Additionally, PIRG’s transparency data shows Kansas to be relatively non-transparent about state government finances.

Recommendations
Improvements to the government’s efficiency and effectiveness should be top priority in Kansas. Inviting the public to view government operations through open data portals and greater transparency are a good first step. Improving Kansas water quality and addressing the average rankings in public health are also on the table for Kansas.
