Maryland stands out in its education, economy, and government outcomes. The state has some of the best k-8 test scores in the Union: both math and reading scores. Maryland has high median household income, low rates of poverty, and strong rates of venture capital investment. The state’s government was one of the first to use scorecards to create results-driven government.

The state, much like other heavily urbanized and populated states, has a below average transportation infrastructure. Maryland’s air quality is 47th in the nation. The state also has high rates of taxes, and low economic diversity. Overall, however, Maryland has select few areas to improve its outcomes.

Recommendations
Top priority for Maryland should be improvement to the state’s infrastructure. Next should be air quality. Maryland is one of the states with high performing outcomes, and should seek to maintain these scores all around.
