Massachusetts is a leader in education and in healthcare. It also ranks in the top 10 states for its economy and government measures. The state is an innovator in new firm generation and venture capital investments. Massachusetts also has low poverty rates and a highly transparent government, and ranks 2nd in public safety overall.

The few areas of poor performance include infrastructure (which is always an issue for populace states) and environment. Particularly, the state has very little renewable energy generated in its borders. Growing state debt is also ranked low among its sister states.

Recommendations
Much of Massachusetts outcomes are outstanding and should be studied by other states. The few areas listed above, such as state debt to GDP, transportation infrastructure, and lack of renewable energy should be addressed. Income inequality is also a poor ranking area for Massachusetts.
