Results Champion?: NO
Virginia is one of the best performing states in the country. With the exception of environment, the Old Dominion State is in or near the top 10 states overall in education, economy, infrastructure, public safety, health, and government. The state has a large economy, with the highest median household income controlling for cost of living. College education outcomes are good as well as k-8 testing performance. In terms of government, the state fiscally stable, and is one of the most innovative and tech savvy of all states in the nation.
Overall, Virginia’s environmental outcomes are below average. However, when looking at each measure individually, there is no one outcome in the bottom 10 for 2014. In fact, air quality is one of the top 10 best. The state performs poorly in number of 2-year degrees, GDP growth rate, and economic diversity.
Virginia is overall performing well. Environmental measures are below average, and a program to address the issue is recommended. Beside this, increasing the state’s economic growth through economic diversification is another path Virginia should explore.
